About the Role

At Mine Area C we are currently seeking an innovative Line Technical Specialist to join our Improvement team on a 5/2:4/3 FIFO roster. You will play an integral role in building our operational team’s capability to problem solve and improve their work. Reporting to the Site Improvement BOS Lead, this role will see you utilising your excellent influencing skills to lead and motivate others to achieve exceptional performance. You will utilise innovative approaches, tools, and technology to deliver a step change in our safety and productivity performance, putting our employees at the heart of continuous improvement and will empower every employee to continuously improve the way we work.

Your responsibilities:

You will be working to build problem solving skills across all levels of the business to support the frontline and engage and empower the workforce. You will be hands on in identifying and implementing systematic improvement initiatives and play a central role in sustaining the BHP Operating System (BOS) across our business. You will gain insight and training in the BOS and LEAN methodologies and will use this knowledge to upskill and develop others through your work.

Your key deliverables will include:

  • Embedding BOS tools among the frontline to make improvement part of every day.
  • Driving the identification and implementation of continuous improvements in frontline safety, productivity, and cultural metrics.
  • Create new Standardised Work / Processes, implement changes to existing Standardised Work based on improvement feedback and Planned Task Confirmation of Standardised Work.
  • Providing coaching to the frontline in business improvement and standardised work methodologies.

About You

We are looking for individuals that possess business knowledge and demonstrate excellence in leadership on a day-to-day basis. Someone who is innovative with a bias to action, can effectively influence others and has a strong ability to build capability in others and lead change.

Mining or resources experience is not mandatory, and we welcome diverse industry backgrounds. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are necessary, allowing you to build relationships with all levels of the operation. Line Technical Specialists support all operational areas including Mining Production, Mining Equipment Maintenance, Fixed Plant Maintenance and Processing Production.


To be successful you will have to demonstrate the following:

  • The ability to effectively coach stakeholders on the use of appropriate improvement tools/ process and systems to identify opportunities that ultimately unlock value and eliminate hazards, waste, and variability.
  • Ability to positively engage with all levels of the business from frontline employees to senior level management.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a collaborative approach to finding practical solutions.
  • Comfortable to work with ambiguity, and innovative enough to find ways around obstacles.
  • A strong working knowledge of Microsoft Suite of products (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook etc.)

Although it is desirable that you already have experience in continuous improvement, you will receive training to support your role and ongoing mentoring and guidance from an experienced team to ensure your success.
